On June 9th, runners of all levels and abilities flock to town for the annual Run for the River 10-mile and 5k race. It kicks off at 8 a.m. with pre-race festivities. Part of the Kenai River Festival, a free family-friendly event designed to inspire, proceeds from the run benefit both the festival and environmental organizations for the Kenai Watershed Forum. Featuring a looped 5k with plenty of twists and turns, it’s a fun run that will help you usher in summer and get a fresh perspective of Alaska’s beauty.

Registration is just $25 for adults with late registration jumping to $35. You can register in person at the Soldotna Creek Park visitor’s center, the local Runner’s Feed store, or online. Day-of registration is $45, so sign up early, grab your waterproof shoes (just in case), and get ready for the race of a lifetime.

Run On

All participants get a race tee-shirt with Dri-Fit design. Medals are available to the top three finishers in each category and by gender. You’ll be able to keep up with the news including photos and announcements on the official Facebook page. Keep in mind this is a pet-free event for safety, so keep your furry friends home for this run.

It’s not unheard of to spot local wildlife while on your trek, so stay alert and take in the beauty of Alaska in the summertime.
