Haines has a handful of bustling restaurants in the heart of downtown, but there’s something special about a classic on the outskirts of town that locals love. The Klondike Saloon and Restaurant is a bare-bones, tiny establishment that does grub right. However, you have Haines Brewery pints on tap and a selection of wines, so when you’re perusing the “Salads-and-Stuff” menu or the pizzas from the wood-burning oven, you have something to pair that comfort food with.

Choose from a selection of pizzas, many featuring fresh, local ingredients. Try the Steve’s with thin-sliced potatoes, pesto, bacon, spinach and caramelized onions. The Razorback has pulled BBQ pork, jalapeños, cheddar and onions. You can always build your own and add on pineapple, feta, sweet Italian sausage and more.

Worth the Trip

Klondike is far from a road trip, but visitors get a different experience when dining where the locals gather. Here, only whole milk mozzarella is used, and all sauces/dressings are house made. Meats are natural, nitrate-free, and locally sourced when available. All dough is made fresh daily and rolled to order.

“Every bit as good as in Italy,” raves one reviewer. Housed in a building featured in the film White Fang, the Klondike is a true landmark in Haines. Come hungry, taste all the brewery options, and discover a slice of paradise in the Alaskan wild.
