Many cruise ship operators call the Port of Haines one of the most gorgeous ports within the Inside Passage. If you’re taking a cruise to Alaska, you’ll be treated to well-maintained docking facilities suitable for even the largest of ships. However, it’s still a relatively small port and therefore each arriving ship will have nearly all of Haines to itself. Take advantage of the laid back atmosphere of Haines whether you’re docking for a short exploration or if Haines is your final destination.
At the Port of Chilkoot Dock, you’ll arrive right across the street from Fort William H. Seward. The historic destination tops the list of cultural activities in Haines. You’ll also be less than half a mile from the downtown district. Shop the local boutiques, dine at the local bakeries and restaurants, and find a slew of local treasures to take home.
You’ve Arrived
Arriving in Alaska, and Haines specifically, by boat is a unique experience. There’s no better way to take in the natural beauty of the region. There are also small boat operators in the Haines area, some of which have an arrangement with the dock. Ask your front desk staff about setting up tours by sea, land, or air.
Once you dock, you’ll find a kiosk with information from the dock and Visitor Center. Open daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., it’s also where tour operators will meet you. Get a shuttle into town, or start your tour of Haines immediately upon arrival.
