Whether you consider your thumb green or black, the Central Peninsula Garden Club Workshops include a variety of programs to help you get outdoors and learn more about gardening. Now that summer is right around the corner, there’s no better time to get to know the beauty of the Kenai Peninsula than by literally digging right in.
What started as a small, volunteer club over a decade ago has grown into a non-profit committed to educating and exchanging information about gardening throughout the Peninsula. Workshops and lectures vary, and depending on weather, summer garden tours are also an option. Gardening in Alaska presents some unique challenges, and the group welcomes all, including short-term visitors.
Get Your Gloves On
September through April, monthly workshops are held, but in May things really heat up with workshops every Saturday. Seminars and special series require pre-registration due to the popularity. Email cenpengardenclub@gmail.com to sign up, and you’re guaranteed to get good and dirty as you’re introduced to native plants and best Alaska gardening practices.
Connect with the Central Peninsula Garden Club and find out about events, gatherings and special pop-up workshops taking place throughout the spring. The club is a great way to get to know the locals, particularly for those in Soldotna for an extended stay.
