It’s the summer of music with the annual Sitka Summer Music Festival taking over the town from June 5 – July 1. The area’s premiere classical music event showcases the best music in fun-filled settings throughout Southeast Alaska. Musicians and performers from around the world flock to Sitka for four consecutive weeks of music that’s family-friendly and guaranteed to make everyone fall in love with the classics.

The festival has been a major part of Sitka for over 40 years, and each year the festival gets bigger. Since 1972, weekly events have been designed to keep you immersed in the experience for a full month. Tuesdays at 5:30, enjoy the week-in preview including a discussion about what’s in store by music educator Susan Reed.

A Musical Movement

Wednesdays at 6:30, it’s the café concert, an informal feature that’s in a different Sitka restaurant every week. It’s the perfect way to blend a sampling of the local cuisine with a relaxed performance. Thursdays at 12:15, it’s Bach’s Lunch which includes a free 60-minute concert.

You’ll want to keep your Friday and Saturday evenings free for concerts at Harrigan Centennial Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. At 6:45, there’s a pre-concert lecture and meet and greet with the performers. Sundays are earmarked for special events including family concerts, crab feeds, a boat cruise, and concert brunch. Watch the official site for updates.
