St. Patrick’s Day marks the start of spring on the Kenai Peninsula, and it’s an old-fashioned festival you don’t want to miss. It all starts in the afternoon followed by a social mixer at 5:30 p.m. Local businesses, school bands, organizations, and more flock to a downtown decked out in green to celebrate the end of winter—and indulge in a few green treats.
If you want to snag a great seat, bring a pop-up chair and set up between Bailey’s Furniture and the “Y” in nearby Soldotna. Throughout the towns on the peninsula, you’ll find local grocers and restaurants serving traditional Irish cuisine. There’s no better way to warm up than with some traditional Irish corned beef and cabbage.
Celebrating in Style
St. Patrick’s Day specials can be found throughout the island, and there are plenty of boutiques and shops to pick up an extra dash of green. Pubs, bars, and lounges serve Jameson specials, and you might even find a pint of green beer or two.
If you’re in town on business and want to participate, connect with the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. Sign-ups for the parade take place throughout March. It’s the perfect way to meet the community and showcase your business.
Where will you find a little luck of the Irish?
