June is the perfect season to get outdoors in Haines, and there are plenty of options to make your adventure happen. Check out the Farmer’s Market at the Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds, open Saturdays through mid-September from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. It’s true one stop shopping where you can get the best homegrown produce, handmade art, baked goodies, and much more.

Mark your calendar for June 16 and don’t miss the 11th Annual Fisherman’s Community Barbecue at the State Fairgrounds. Featuring a King salmon dinner with dancing, live music, and a flowing beer garden, it’s where the region’s salmon fisheries come together to celebrate with a decadent meal you’ll never forget.

The Great Outdoors

On June 16, the 26th Annual Kluane to Chilkat Bike Relay takes place and allows cyclists to zip from Haines Junction, YU to Chilkat, Alaska on a 148.8 mile journey. The athletes speed through Kluane National Park, Tatshenshini Alsek Provincial Park, and finally through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve.

If you’ll be in Haines in June and want to check out the massive relay, visit the website at www.kcibr.org to register your team or see if any existing teams are in need of an additional rider. Prefer to be a spectator? You’ll be in good company as supporters root on the teams as they battle it out to be named the fastest in Haines.
