The Haines Chamber of Commerce goes all out for Independence Day, offering a variety of options for visitors. Starting at 7 a.m. on July 4th, the flag raising ceremony is hosted by the local American Legion. Head to Ft. Seward Parade Grounds to start the day early. Afterward, a community breakfast is offered at the American Legion Hall with all your favorite dishes.
The Mt. Ripinsky Run at 8 a.m. heads out from the American Legion and takes runners through a gorgeous looped route where you’ll enjoy the early morning views, landscape and wildlife. Starting at 10 a.m., kids begin to decorate their bikes for the parade, and visitors are welcome to look on at the Assembling Chambers’ parking lot.
Happy Fourth
The parade line-up begins at 10:30 a.m. before the official start at 11. For two hours, enjoy some of the best floats in Alaska. Following the parade, pie competitions, famous root beer float showcases, and the Book, Bake, Brats and Burgers event takes place at Tlingit Park.
The Haines Senior Center is hosting their annual sale throughout the afternoon, and Mud Volleyball takes place at noon. In the evening, a music festival at Ft. Seward Park gets the energy levels high before fireworks at dusk. It’s an all-American celebration like none other, and a party you don’t want to miss.
