A local treasure, the Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center can be found at 09 Chilkat Ave. in the heart of Haines. Connected to the Bald Eagle Preserve Visitor Center, scheduled guided tours often take place at 2 p.m. for $35 per person, but visitors are always welcome to explore on their own self-guided tours during opening hours.
Open May – September 15, self-guided tours are $15 per adult and $7.50 for children. However, guided tours with locals who have a unique perspective of life in Klukwan and a rich heritage to share are a one of a kind experience. You’ll explore the traditional “knowledge camp” and exhibit hall where traditional fish processing, smoking, and drying is showcased. See the 37-foot canoe, long house, and hear about the founding of Klukwan on a special customized tour for $50 per person.
