Spending Halloween in Haines? The small, charming town offers a smattering of spooky options like the Trick or Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk at the Alaska State Fairgrounds. Hosted by the Fair and local non-profits, the event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and culminates with a fire pit, music and lights, hot drinks and of course a costume contest. Entry is just $10 and it’s a unique way to spend Halloween night in Haines.
Throughout October, the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Gathering is also taking place. It’s not very spooky, but it is the biggest congregation of American Bald Eagles in the world. You’ll spot up to 4,000 eagles gathered along the Chilkat River to dine on the spawning salmon. Make sure to check out the river banks daily for your best chance of seeing this incredible gathering.
Ghouls and Grog
Costume contests, hauntingly good music and drink specials are featured at bars and pubs throughout Halloween weekend and night. Check out Fogcutter Bar for one of the most popular holiday parties in town, or head to Harbor Bar for a ghoulish-ly good night with a view.
Port Chilkoot Distillery is sure to be doling out their signature “grog,” growlers, pints and more, while the Lighthouse is pairing their famous seafood with craft cocktails for the occasion. Where will the haunting season find you celebrating?
