The state comes in two colors – lush, rich green…

Or crisp, pure, white.

The water is crystal clear.

Sunrise over the mountains is worth getting up early to see.

This past winter, looking at these Alaskan mountains every day reminded me that we all face each new day and each situation with a choice. ⠀ ⠀ We can look at the same mountain and say, “I’m so tired of snow and cold and dark.”⠀ ⠀ Or…⠀ ⠀ We can say, “Look at this gorgeous view I get to wake up to every day.” ⠀ I saw a sign today on our tiny little #homeralaska theater, a quote from Dumbledore: “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”⠀ ⠀ I needed that reminder right now that it’s my choice to turn the light on. 💡 ⠀ ⠀ XOXO⠀ Tass #cottoncandymountains #alaska #landscapephotography #sunsetview #alaskawilderness #perspective #itsallaboutperspective #healthychoices #choices #mentalhealth #dumbledore #dumbledorequotes

And, of course, the Aurora Borealis never fails to amaze.

The wildlife you’ll find is amazing, like these eagles.

Or whales playing in the water.

Or this lynx relaxing in a snowdrift.

How about this giant moose in a snowy wonderland?

And an almost-scary coyote, mid-yawn.

Majestic wolves roaming their territory.

"“Thinking Like a Mountain,” Aldo Leopold observed, “I have lived to see state after state extirpate its wolves. I have watched the face of many a newly wolfless mountain, and seen … every edible bush and seedling browsed … to death … every edible tree defoliated to the height of a saddlehorn.… Too much safety seems to yield only danger in the long run.… Perhaps this is the hidden meaning in the howl of the wolf, long known among mountains, but seldom perceived among men.” He offered, with memorable resonance, “Only the mountain has lived long enough to listen objectively to the howl of a wolf.”" -Carl Safina; Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel #HainesAlaska #greywolf #KroschelWildlifeCenter #wildlifephotography #wolf

Or the bears, whom everyone loves – from a distance!

You can hit the slopes on skis or snowboard.

Or venture into the water with a kayak or canoe.

Wander the glaciers to see their beauty up close.

If you want to stay inside, visit one of the distilleries or breweries in the area.

And browse the art galleries for beautiful pieces.

Hello everyone ♥️ I hope you all had a Happy Easter and are staying safe at home. We are doing our best to stay sane, and that means painting, drawing and crafting till we drop. Do you have any projects keeping you together right now? We would love to see! . . Check out this lovely watercolor Lynda painted during her stay home time, testing out a new product we recently started stocking. She based this beautiful raven off of a piece she saw in SPLASH 2020, and it turned out great! . . With the Strathmore "Ready Cut Watercolor" packages, the paper is already the perfect size for standard framing. The 5×7 pkg has 25 sheets, 8×10 has 10 sheets and the 11×14 has 6 and they are all $12.29/package. The paper is their 500 Series CP which is their Premium, 100% cotton, acid free and archival and is comparable to the Arches 140 lb CP. Stay safe, stay creative.
