Visitors and residents alike find numerous ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Anchorage. The local NAACP Youth Council in collaboration with the Alaska Chapter of the Sierra Club hosts a guided walk around Mountain View with the goal of making winter trails safer. Meet at the Mt. View Lions Club Den at 501 N. Pine Street to join the free walk on January 19th at 10 a.m.

The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church’s annual service project puts together hygiene kits for a number of non-profits, including the Refugee Assistance & Immigration Services (RAIS) organization and Catholic Social Services. Both donations and manpower hours are needed at this event on January 19th at noon. Meet at the church at 855 E. 20th Avenue.

Every year, the Alaska Bar Association offers a Free Legal Clinic on MLK Jr. Day at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club. Join local attorneys for one-on-one conversations, and get answers to all your legal questions. The event goes from noon until 6 p.m.

The Mat-Su Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation 15th annual celebration takes place on January 19th from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Mat-Su Palmer Senior Center at 1132 South Chugach Street. It’s a chance to celebrate the dreams and life of the doctor. Treats, keynote speakers and the community are at the heart of this event.
