Don’t let the last of summer go to waste. Spend your time on the Kenai Peninsula exploring the various hiking trails that showcase the wild and beautiful side of Alaska in a brand new light. Devil’s Creek Trail is a fantastic two-day hike option, but be careful. Wolves, moose and even wolverines are often spotted here.
Try Homer Spit Trail, an easy and paved four-mile venture along a paved trail to Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon. Trails are impeccably maintained and completely flat, making it accessible to all including visitors using wheelchairs. The first mile is the best for birding, and you’ll soon spot fishing boats along the water.

At Russian Lakes Trail, a popular spot for hikers, birders, fishermen and hunters, you can enjoy much of the peninsula’s most famous views in one fell swoop. The Russian River Falls is absolutely gorgeous and the fish counting station is a must-see to spot salmon. However, bears do wander here, so stay alert.
Mount Marathon Trail, formerly Lowell Mountain, is aptly named and known for the Independence Day marathon, which boasts 800 people every year. There’s also a three-mile option that can take you swiftly up the mountain. The ascent is less than one mile, making this a perfect hiking workout.
