August marks the last month for most runners and athletes to take to the Soldotna trails, and you won’t want to miss out on any of these gorgeous options. The Lee Shore Center Run for Women is held the second Saturday and features a 5k and 10k option. Enjoy a multi-looped, paved, and winding course that takes you through the streets of downtown Kenai. More information is available at the official site.
The Salmon Run Series culminates in August at the Tsalteshi Trail. Held on the first Tuesday, the grand finale of this local favorite is a salmon BBQ for all. Registration is just $15 per race, and there’s a special 1k Kids’ Race for just $5. The series was founded by local Allie Ostrander for the Caring for Kenai Contest, and has grown to become one of the most popular local runs since 2012.
Get Your Run On
The Superhero 5k Run/Walk in nearby Kenai takes place the second Saturday and encourages all participants to dress up in their favorite superhero costume. Proceeds benefit neglected and abused children supported by Kenai Peninsula CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children). You can register on the Active website.
Prefer a solo run? Soldotna has plenty of maintained trails including the Bishop Creek Trail and picnic area, Burney’s Trail, Izaak Walton State Recreation Site, Bear Mountain Trail, and many more. There’s no better way to explore and enjoy the beauty of the peninsula than on two feet and chipped trails.
