Celebrate Christmas in the Park December 2nd with a special holiday film screening, hot cocoa and cookies, the city tree lighting and of course a visit from Santa himself. It all happens at nearby Soldotna State Park at 5 p.m. You’ll keep warm with decadent hot chocolate, and the Pizza Boys will be on hand selling their delicious slices and pies. The movie starts at 6 p.m., and it’s guaranteed to be a fun-filled family event that kicks off the holiday season.

This annual event is part of what got Kenai ranked in the list of “11 of the most enchanting, magical Christmas towns in Alaska” by Only in Your State. There’s also some rich, addictive sweet shops in town you’ll want to check out. It’s not the holidays without a few chocolates and treats, so try out these confectionaries and bakeries:

  • Charlotte’s Restaurant, Bakery and Café: With a bustling espresso bar and favorite morning treats from crepes to honey-oat French toast, Charlotte’s has everything you need for sweet beginnings. There’s always something new being whipped up in the bakery, like chocolate pancakes, so start your morning on a delicious note.
  • Moose is Loose: Take a quick trip to Soldotna, and you’ll be at Moose is Loose enjoying their zany chocolates and incredible chocolate and coffee drinks. Moose provides confectionaries to coffee shops around Alaska, but there’s nothing like visiting the real thing.
  • Walmart Bakery: Looking for a wide selection of goodies? Head into the Kenai Walmart and check out the bakery section. Fresh, locally made delights are readily available, and if you’re catering a holiday party you can find some impressive sweet and savory platters.

Magic is in the air and a white Christmas is nearly guaranteed. What will you discover in Kenai?
