The local municipal airport, SQX, is on Funny River Road and just one mile from downtown Soldotna. Close to the Kenai River, arrivals don’t have to wait long for their fly fishing, hunting and exploration activities. In fact, many tour companies, including flightseeing and fishing charters, pick up visitors directly from SQX.

No hangar facilities are hosted by the city, but visitors will see a variety of private hangars leased at SQX. There’s also private servicing and fuel at the airport. Ultra-light aircrafts use the runway alongside commercial planes. For many flying into SQX, long-term parking is a must and available for just $400 per year, $40 per month and $15 per week.

Available Amenities

Like most small airports, SQX is hospitable, but you won’t find shopping and dining on site. Snow removal isn’t performed by the city in the tie-downs or leased lots, so hangar renters are charged with their own snow removal tasks. Taxis and buses are readily available, along with the numerous tour company operators, happy to pick up customers for VIP treatment.

Snack machines, ATMs and information guides are available at the airport. With downtown so close by (walkable in warmer months), SQX operates as a highly convenient and efficient port of entry to this charming Alaska town. Ask any staff member for tips and advice, and you’ll be treated to an insider’s guide to the area.
