May 4 – 19 marks the 32nd annual Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival. Artistic Director William Ransom is now in his second year of service, though each festival takes up to 24 months of planning. Part of the Chamber Music of America and the Western Jazz Association, the event creators partner with the best performers and organizations around the globe to bring this massive festival to life.

Thanks to Ransom, many artists and groups are coming to Juneau for the first time. He specializes in listening to what the Juneau community wants and offering a diverse selection of performances throughout the month. Favorite performers include The Congress, Julie Coucheron, Axiom Brass Quintet, and Janet Clippard.

Smooth Moves

Bands flock to Juneau from around the world and take to the stage at various venues around town. There are both ticketed and free performances throughout May, including workshops and concerts held at nearby schools. The free concerts, or Brown Bag series, are sponsored by local companies and take place Mondays and Wednesdays at the State Office Building.
