Dog sledding is common in Alaska as it was once their main mode of transportation during the early days of history. Today, tourists can experience dog sledding when they visit many cities in the State including Anchorage. But do you know what breed of dog builds a sled team? Here is the list of the most common dog breeds that are loved by mushers!

Siberian Huskies

Siberian Huskies are popular all over the world due to their adorable and furry features. What makes them a good part of the sled team are their strong pack-oriented personality and their crazy speed. Siberian Huskies are known for being energetic and attentive that makes them good runners. Other countries and pet lovers adopt Siberian Huskies because they are very friendly that adds up to their adorable features!

Alaskan Malamutes

Alaskan Malamutes have a thick coat that lets them endure the very cold temperature for a long time during the Iditarod Race. They can carry heavy loads and take them to long-distance destinations with their level of endurance. But on the downside, they do not have enough racing speed to compete with other dog sled breeds. Most mushers do not add a purebred Alaskan Malamute to their team.

Alaskan Huskies

Another type of Husky is the Alaskan Husky. When it comes to speed, strength, endurance and agility, Alaskan Huskies are the most popular among Iditarod mushers. They are descendants of breeds that are ideal for dog sleddings such as Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Huskies. Given all the assets that Alaskan Huskies have, they can go as far as 28 mph. This energetic breed can be taken to outdoor adventures such as hiking and running.
