You’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to Dublin at the Arctic Siren Cabaret. This year-round gathering where attendees sing songs and enjoy live dance performances goes full-Irish on March 17th. Enjoy Dawn Berg, The Derry Aires and Philip Price along with performances by the Irish Dance Academy of Alaska and Northern Lights Celtic Dancers. Tickets start at $20.
You can also kick back to Pipe Bands, a performance troupe that takes over Anchorage’s pubs and venues throughout the month of March. Featuring two bands, the Crow Creek Pipes and Drums as well as the Alaska Celtic Pipes and Drums, this annual fundraiser has a slam-packed schedule. However, the most bagpipes perform at Humpy’s.
A Little Lucky
The Hard Rock Café and the Irish Cultural Collective partner up to offer ceili dancing lessons. It’s a combination of contra and square dancing, all set to live music and instructed by a professional caller. The annual dance is located in the Hard Rock Café, starting at 6:30 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day. If you’d prefer to just listen to Irish music, check out the downstairs venue. Neither event has a cover charge.
Anchorage also has a number of Irish Pubs, including McGinley’s. They host a traditional Irish band on St. Patrick’s Day starting at 7:30 p.m. However, you can get a head start with their St. Paddy’s Eve party on the 16th. Also check out Reilly’s Irish Pub on Fireweed Lane for a massive tent reserved for dancing, Irish coffee and Irish car bomb specials, bag pipers and much more.
